PSSP Parallel Sessions: Mga Eksperimentong Sikolohikal Part III

Posted December 8, 2014 by Tristan Colasito

Table tennis, Lawn tennis, badminton, and basketball. These are just some of the sports that require good hand eye coordination. Are there ways to improve on Hand eye coordination? Practice? Sure. But this one study found out another way: increasing aggression.

The participants of the study were student athletes from Central Luzon State University who were then separated into two groups. The first group was asked to play a violent video game in order to increase their aggression levels while the second group was asked to play a non-violent video game in order to decrease their aggression levels. Afterwards, they were asked to play a buzzer game to measure their hand eye coordination.

Results showed that higher aggression can be advantageous for one’s hand eye coordination regardless of sex. This is primarily because when a person feels aggressive, that person will have an increased heart rate, increased blood pressure and faster breathing. Moreover, some studies have shown that these physiological factors can help a person concentrate and focus better, thus proving advantageous for hand eye coordination. Although, it is also important to note that there are some studies that say that aggression can also be disadvantageous in sports due to impulsivity and incontrollable behaviour.
