On taking up the licensure exams for psychometricians

Posted June 8, 2014 by Ian Benedict Mia

It was just recently that the licensure exams for becoming a psychometrician is now a requirement as mandated by the Philippine Regulation Commission (PRC). The major courses that will be included in the exam are Psychological Assessment (PSYCHO1 and PSYCHO2 classes), Industrial Psychology, Abnormal Psychology and Theories of Personality. This basically means that you have to take these courses seriously, since most concepts in the exam would involve lessons from these courses. However, it doesn't necessarily mean that you can just disregard your other major courses in psychology; they're equally as important to the others.

To the freshmen

You have a long way to go before even starting with your majors, so for now be sure to do well in your 'floating subjects.' One of the major characteristics that your future employers would seek in you is your ability to adapt to different situations. If you tend to choose your subjects selectively and focus only on what you prefer, you may have a hard time later on trying to adapt to other situations. This basically means that as early as your freshman days, start being flexible and adaptive. Later on you'll find it helpful by the time you're already taking up your major courses.

To the psychology "gurangs" of DLSU

You've gone a long way now. Why not try to review your past lessons from PSYCHO1, PSYCHO2, INDPSYC, ABPSYCH and THEOPER every once in awhile? It will be a big help not only for your preparation for the licensure exam, but in providing you sufficient data for your upcoming thesis as well. The tip here is: read, read, read, study, study, study. If at this point you still tend to procrastinate, think again. Creating a thesis isn't like your normal research paper, and you have to read several related literature to arrive at a particular research gap you could investigate on. What matters here is that you read and understand what you read. In any case, investing much of your time in your thesis may also gear you up for the licensure exam, so be sure to take it seriously!

What was mentioned here was purely experiential, and you may have other thoughts on how to surely prepare for the licensure exam. It's not as difficult as we may think it is, it's only a matter of studying and making sure you are the future psychometrician or psychologist you ought yourself to be. Keep your head up and strive only for the best!
